An installation showcasing the versatile 3Sixty Immersive Demonstration Space at the Creative Technology Centre, based in the Ron Cooke Hub at The University of York. The 3Sixty offers 360 degree, 2 storey high video projection. Coupled with 32 speakers on three tiers, the space provides a unique audio-visual experience.
The 3Sixty is part of the £20 million Ron Cooke Hub, a conceptual building which supports start-up businesses and inter-disciplinary research centres, as well as creating social and study spaces for University of York students. Since November 2010, over 500 businesses have made use of the Hub's facilities.
I was commissioned to produce two demonstration films that reflect the diverse sectors accommodated at the Hub. The first phase of development depended upon networking with a range of companies to collect data, images, and video for the film. Content was sourced from management consultant and software developers York Metrics, 3D Animation studio Distant Future, video game developers Revolution Software, social media startup Yatterbox.com, Heritage Technology Ltd, the York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis, and researchers in departments of Electronics, Theatre Film and Television, and Computer Science.
I worked closely with The Ron Cooke Hub business manager Grahame Brown and Business Development Manager Philip Morris to develop the first demonstration film in July 2011. I created the motion graphics in After Effects, and edited these to a score composed in Sibelius and FL Studio. I then collaborated with audio engineer Dr. Gavin Kearney from York's Department of Theatre, Film and Television who mixed the music into an immersive 32-speaker audio environment.
The first-phase of the film has been screened at a number of high profile events, including the grand opening of The Ron Cooke Hub by Sir Alan Langlands on 22nd July 2011. We're currently excited about developing the second phase of the film, which will be completed in the coming months, and which will inspire companies in a range of sectors to come to York and take advantage of this extraordinary space.
